Bio:  Nathan Valentine, MD, CPE, FAAFP

I am the Chief Quality Officer at the Oklahoma Health Care Authority.  My prior role with the agency was as Senior Medical Director.  I am passionately committed to improving health for the underserved.  I am particularly excited about my new role because I playing a key role in building the Quality Improvement capacity and capability for OHCA.  Additionally, my teams will directly engage community partners, ensuring health outcomes for Medicaid members improve continuously, significantly and measurably.              

I graduated from medical school at the University of Oklahoma and completed Family Medicine Residency in Wichita, KS at Via Christi.  I am board certified in Family Medicine with a CAQ in Hospice & Palliative Care.  After two years of leadership training while working full time, I completed my CPE, Certified Physician Executive, through the American Association of Physician Leaders (AAPL). 

Diving deeper on my history, immediately after residency, my wife and I travelled (couch-surfed) for about 9 months, visiting 13 countries.  Upon return I started my solo House Call practice for Medicare/Medicaid patients who have difficulty getting out of the house to see their doctor, and my wife—also a Family Physician--joined a local private practiceI learned a great deal by caring for my patients in every setting—from private residence to inpatient and nursing home.  After several years I closed my solo practice to join a Federally Qualified Health Center, Variety Care, where I practiced full time outpatient Family Medicine.  Then I began leadership roles at Variety Care, first as Director of Family Medicine followed by Chief Medical Officer.  Concurrently, I was the Medical Director for PCNOK, the statewide Accountable Care Organization made up of FQHC’sMy wife and I have 2 children and I enjoy reading, travel (pre-COVID), and water sports.
