Paxlovid in Patients with Cardiovascular Disease, 23D31 - 12/1/2022

This 45-minute-long session is attended by the cardiology faculty, cardiovascular fellows and CV team members. Attendance has improved since we started offering this session virtually. In addition to the OU based health professionals, we also have a few physicians from the community attend our Grand Rounds. The format of instruction is the traditional lecture style, with ~ 10 minutes built in for questions and answers. We have featured several outside faculty members in the past year which has increased not only the quality of the session, but also enhanced the reach of our Grand Rounds to a large audience. We intend to continue the same format for the next academic year.

1. Recent changes in guideline recommendations
2. Recommendations for the management of acute and chronic cardiac conditions

Session Professional Practice Gaps:
Paxlovid interactions with cardiovascular medications are not well understood. Strategies to avoid harmful interactions are not well defined. Many cardiovascular professionals encountering patients who are on cardiovascular medications and Paxlovid may be unaware of these interactions.

Learning Objectives:  Upon completion of this session, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to: 
1.Describe the utility of Paxlovid in patients with cardiovascular disease.
2.Recognize potential interactions of Paxlovid with cardiovascular medications.
3.Apply individual and system-level interventions to avoid harmful drug-drug interactions.
