Overview

The Schwartz Center Rounds sessions are a multidisciplinary forum where care providers and staff gather to discuss some of the difficult emotional and social issues that arise in caring for patients and their families. A case is presented by a panel of 3 healthcare providers or staff representing multiple disciplines and points of view. A facilitator then engages the audience in an interactive discussion about the case and participants' experiences. These sessions foster teamwork, understanding of a shared experience, and intra-team connection.

Overall Professional Practice Gap:
A large body of evidence supports the impact of effective communication and relationships on patients, families, and healthcare providers. The healthcare community has not systematically addressed the need to foster compassion, teamwork, support and relationship-centered care across the continuum of health professional education.  Schwartz Rounds provides an opportunity to share personal experiences in order to foster that teamwork, reduce compassion fatigue, and promote longevity in clinical medicine.
