Overview

In this regularly scheduled series, four quarterly meetings with 2 hours of CME each will integrate course content to increase physicians' awareness of the broad cultural context of their patients. The presentations will enhance physicians' incorporation of this knowledge into an effective treatment plan that includes up-to-date evidence-based biological and psychotherapeutic treatments in culturally sensitive patient care. Methods and content include patient case studies, sessions focused on the interface of medical conditions (such as cancer or COVID-19) with psychiatric problems, presentations focusing on evidence-based treatments, and panels to increase physician leadership and address needs of the mentally ill in Oklahoma. A special focus on the opioid epidemic will assist psychiatrists in addressing these common problems in their patients.

This presentation will highlight diagnostic challenges in psychiatry beginning with the initial misdiagnosis of the patient to the final accurate diagnosis of psychiatric disorders. The presentation underscores the importance of through psychiatric assessments, considering the complexity of symptoms ad potential for underlying psychiatric conditions.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this session, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to:

This presentation will highlight the significance of an Anti-Inflammatory Diet in the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder in comparison to the Standard American Diet and will provide suggestions on how to incorporate this information into your daily practice in regards to patient care.

Learning Objectives:  Upon completion of this presentation, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to: (1) Determine the difference between an Anti-Inflammatory and Inflammatory Diet; (2) Provide a non-pharmacological intervention in Depression Treatment to Psychiatric patients; and (3) Explain the pathways of Inflammation leading to Chronic Illness.




Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to:

  1. Explore and analyze the patient's psychosocial background and traumatic history, focusing on how past verbal abuse, controlling behavior, and experiences may contribute to Capgras delusion development
