OU Anesthesia Simulation Update, Course #25D05 - 3/28/2025

Anesthesiology is a specialty that cares for patients of all ages as they are being treated for a wide variety of conditions.  This requires broad knowledge of physiology and technical skills to apply in patient care.  Therefore anesthesiology is a specialty  encompassing all the systems of the body and all ages of patients. Anesthesiology includes both generalists and subspecialists.  This series is a weekly one hour presentation incorporating active learning techniques including:  case studies, article reviews, panel discussions, evidence based topic reviews, and question and answer opportunities.  In this series a wide range of diverse clinical cases and variety of topics are presented which are relevant to both generalists and subspecialists involved in perioperative care.  

Overall Professional Practice Gaps:
1.  Anesthesia providers and other practitioners need updates on anesthesia and critical care and pain management related topics to consider practice changes based on new evidence
2.  Practitioners need to develop skills in communication, conflict resolution, and inter-professional teamwork to use during routine and high stress situations
3. Practitioners need to recognize risks and signs of burnout and develop strategies to maintain wellness
