Envisioning an Integrated Oklahoma & Oklahoma and Perinatal Psychiatry, Course #27D10 - 9/17/2026

In this regularly scheduled series, four quarterly meetings with 2 hours of CME each will integrate course content to increase physicians’ awareness of the broad cultural and medical context of their patients. The presentations will enhance physicians’ incorporation of this knowledge into an effective treatment plan that includes up-to-date evidence-based biological and psychotherapeutic treatments in culturally sensitive patient care. Methods and content include patient case studies, sessions focused on the interface of medical conditions (such as cancer or cardiovascular disease) with psychiatric problems, presentations focusing on evidence-based treatments, and panels to increase physician leadership and address needs of the mentally ill in Oklahoma. A special focus on the opioid epidemic will assist psychiatrists in addressing these common problems in their patients.

1. Analyze how cultural identity, social determinants of health, and systemic inequities influence psychiatric symptom presentation, diagnosis, and treatment engagement.
2. Apply current and emerging pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic treatments in ways that account for cultural variation and patient-specific needs.
3. Demonstrate strategies for incorporating cultural humility and equity-informed practices into clinical decision-making to reduce disparities and improve patient outcomes.
