The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry presents a comprehensive, year-long mini residency in implant dentistry. Participants will complete this course with the knowledge, understanding and skill sets to immediately incorporate implant dentistry into their practice. This course will focus on live demonstrations, as well as placement and restoration of implants by attendees on pre-selected patients. Course features includes:

  • 77 Hours of didactic instruction and 38 hours of hands on experience
  • Cadaver dissection and placement of implant
  • 1:2 faculty to attendee ratio during surgical procedures
  • Two complete implant cases on live patients per participant
  • Comprehensive didactic instruction on case selection, treatment planning, implant selection, surgical procedures, bone grafting, implant maintenance, managing complications and follow-up care
  • Training for surgical assisting team
  • Business overview and benefits of incorporating implant dentistry
  • Complimentary 1- year membership in OU COD Implant Study Club including CE hours accrued
  • Surgical assisting staff to receive separate, additional training in select modules

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to:


  1. Basic review of anatomy and physiology as it relates to implant dentistry.
  2. Learn surgical and prosthetics principles as it relates to implant dentistry.
  3. Hands on experience with surgical placement and restoration of implants on live patients.
  4. Diagnosis and treatment planning for the edentulous arch.
  5. Proper case selection for the beginner implant practitioner .

Additional Information


Patient Submission
Course attendees will place surgical dental implants on live patients. As such, course attendees will be responsible for securing their own patients from their own practice to participate in this course, and will be responsible for post-op care. After enrollment, course attendees will be given information on patient requirements and will be asked to submit four candidates for submission. Course directors will review patient submissions and assist course attendees in selecting two patients for treatment.
