Overview
Psychiatry is a diverse specialty area encompassing the vast complexities of mental health, and includes both generalists and specialists. Grand rounds is a monthly one hour presentation given by psychiatry faculty to offer learning opportunities on specific  cases, conditions, regulations, procedures, updates on evidence-based therapies, and more. Because of the diversity of psychiatric conditions and treatments, a wide variety of topics are presented which are relevant to both generalists and subspecialists. Journal club is a monthly one hour presentation give by psychiatry faculty. Dr. Ashley Walker,  to offer learning opportunities on how to read a journal article critically, to improve clinical appraisal and assimilate evidence skills, and to apply knowledge of study design and statistical methods.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to:

  1. Apply the most current evidence-based medicine and literature to their practice
  2. Apply specific use of diagnostic procedures and medications
  3. Apply current best practice in education to the teaching and assessment of trainees
  4. Identify appropriate resources for current information on a variety of topics
  5. Improve clinical appraisal & assimilate evidence skills
  6. Read a journal article critically
  7. Apply knowledge of study design & statistical methods
  8. Keep up with the current evidence based literature
  9. Identify and disseminate information and insights about patient care that are drqwn from experience
