Overview

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is hosting the 2nd annual Big XII Research Compliance Conference in Oklahoma City.  This conference will provide an opportunity to meet and network with research compliance professionals who currently serve at universities across the Big XII.  Activities will include presentations from keynote speakers and breakout sessions to discuss relevant research compliance topics such as restricted party screening, clinical trials, emergency disaster planning, and supervising multiple compliance areas. 

The target audience includes associate vice presidents, directors, committee coordinators and administrators, and other research compliance professionals from each of the Big XII universities and other regional academic institutions. 

New! Big 12 Compliance Senior Leadership Session
Senior compliance leaders are invited to participate in a discussion of a broad set of senior-level topics related to research compliance. Possible topics include:
• Federal trends in compliance
• Policy and practices 
• Reporting structures
• Professional associations for compliance leaders
• Research Advisory Boards
• Work load, compensation, responsibility among staff
• Training 
• Challenges and successes in compliance
• Tools of the trade 
• Working with legal counsel, the board of regents and others

Dawn Underwood (Assistant Vice President for Research Compliance, Oklahoma State University) and Sandra Nettleton (Director, Office of Compliance, The University of Oklahoma) will facilitate the discussion. Participants should have oversight responsibilities of at least two compliance areas. 



Registration
Registration: $125

No registration refunds will be made after September 19. Substitutions are accepted.
Registration fees, less a $25 processing fee, will be refunded if notice is received by September 19, 2019.

Keynote Speaker: 
Kathryn Harris, PhD
Dr. Harris works in the Office of Science Policy (OSP), Division of Biosafety, Biosecurity and Emerging Biotechnology Policy at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  
For almost 15 years she has worked to develop national and regional programs of stakeholder relations, education, and outreach strategies relevant to the oversight of research with recombinant and synthetic nucleic acid molecules and research that has dual use potential.  She advises on biosafety and biosecurity policy and regulatory issues, and is the Director for the NIH/AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship Program.
Prior to joining OSP she was the Biological Safety Officer at Northwestern University. Dr. Harris is Registered Biosafety Professional and a member of the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA). She was a founding member and first president of the Midwest Area Biosafety Network (MABioN). She received her Ph.D. from Cornell University and completed two years of postdoctoral training at Washington University in St Louis.
