Overview
OU Health is proud to sponsor the 2026 Palliative Care Summit, a full-day multidisciplinary educational activity designed to improve clinicians’ knowledge, competence, and performance in the delivery of palliative care. The summit features expert-led sessions on communication in dementia care and end-of-life care, advance care planning, care of patients at the end of life, ethics of surrogate medical decision-making, and deprescribing while maintaining adequate symptom management. Through discussion of legal, ethical, and clinical considerations, participants will gain practical strategies to support patient-centered decision-making and interdisciplinary care. The keynote speaker is Dr. Hillary Lum, MD, PhD, who is board certified in hospice and palliative medicine.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Apply ethical and legal principles of surrogate medical decision-making and advance care planning in the care of patients with dementia and those at the end of life.
  2. Utilize effective communication strategies during serious illness conversations, including dementia care and end-of-life discussions with patients and families.
  3. Evaluate medication regimens to identify deprescribing opportunities while maintaining appropriate symptom management and patient comfort.
  4. Integrate interdisciplinary approaches into palliative care planning to support goal-concordant, patient-centered care.
