Overview
The overall goal for this year’s conference is improvement of patient care through increasing learner competence, leading to improved performance in applying evidence-based use of evidence-based treatment options.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to:

  1. Describe the different mechanisms of mitral regurgitation and how they influence management.
  2. Analyze the nuances of echo imaging in aortic stenosis and patient characteristics that determine management decisions.
  3. Review the most recent update of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) / American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines pertaining to native mitral and aortic valve disease.
  4. Discuss the most recent American Association of Echocardiography (ASE) guidelines for native valve regurgitation and for aortic stenosis and how they influence patient care.
  5. Discuss how to use appropriately cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) techniques for the quantification of native valve regurgitation.
  6. Evaluate prognosis of patients with valvular heart disease based on CMR findings.
  7. Assess prosthetic valve disease (including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)) using CMR techniques.
  8. Identify the persistent sex-specific gaps found in guidelines, recommendations and prevention of cardiovascular disease strategies for women, and recognize diagnostic and therapeutic adherence.
  9. Explain the differences in coronary artery disease patterns in women and its impact on prognosis.
  10. Recognize sex-specific risk factors that affect women that should be part of risk assessment of women.
  11. Describe recommendations for specialized care for women to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease.
  12. Review the methodology of developing performance and quality measures.
  13. Discuss the construct and evidence supporting the different measures.
  14. Describe future directions and areas of research to enhance care after acute MI.
  15. Review the current guidelines for catheter based revascularization in stable ischemic heart disease.
  16. Evaluate the relevance and impact of the recent sham-controlled trial (ORBITA) of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in stable ischemic heart disease.
  17. Review the indications for referral for durable left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) consideration.
  18. Identify the specific considerations and contraindications for durable LVAD implantation.
  19. Discuss the clinical factors influencing the management of LVAD.
  20. Evaluate the emergencies in patients with LVAD.
