Overview

The Academy of Teaching Scholars Lunch and Learn program is a great opportunity for medical and health professions educators to gain continuing education on a variety of education related topics. This format allows for the presentation of best-practices, recent study and practical education skills. Presenters are subject matter experts who not only present but engage in discussion. The program also encourages interprofessional educators
to interact and learn from each other. It is important for educators to stay abreast of recent medical education research, student development theories, and education skills in both the didactic and clinical settings.

Professional Practice Gaps:
Many providers, faculty, and medical learners do not understand the value and necessity for mentorship and implementation with in academic healthcare systems. Upon completion of this presentation, participants will gain an appreciation for the role of mentoring in the academic healthcare field.


Learning Objectives:  Upon completion of this session, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to: 
1.Recognize the challenges/barriers to obtaining and sustaining a faculty mentor 
2.Examine mentor/mentee competencies and its impact on effective mentoring
3.Illustrate strategies to address the needs of faculty mentees in an academic environment
